(San Diego, CA)
Good times were had at the sketchy Triple
Crown Pub for a
classic game of beer pong. On a recent trip to the La Jolla area of
San Diego for a job interview, Wildman threw out the challenge to Sheetz
Bitch for alate night game of beer pong. As a matter of fact, it certainly
was rather late and a busy night. Our evening agenda included: Watching
the sox game, doing a 4-mile
run to the
Torres on San Diego, swimming in the pool, checking out the hot babes
in the hot tub (btw we couldn't distinguish whether the hot blonde had
real or fake tats.)
reserving a vanity name on facebook, eating good italian food, having
wine and chatting with the Sheetz's woman for two hours and then debating
at 12:25am whether or not we should play a game of beer pong.
Wait - - is there ever a question of whether we should
play beer pong??? Anyway, we fortunately convinced Andy's
date to drive us 10 miles to drive to the Triple Crown
Pub for a game. Inside it was packed and the crowd seemed
to be on the non-affluent type. But did we really care?
No we just wanted pong. The table was perfect, except for
one side that had a drop-off and was exceedingly close
to a pool table. When we arrived a couple was playing ping
pong. With less than 40 minutes of bar-time and a cold
pitcher of Blue Moon waiting for us, Sheetz Bitch asked
the players when they were going to finish up. Fortunately,
they kindly turned over the table for us to get the game.
The downside of some situations with beer pong is playing
with glasses instead of plastic cups can be painful. The
reason being that pong balls rickichet (sp?) of of glasses
like you would not believe and most sinks traditionally
hit the inside of the cup enroute to the beer. This generally
does not work well with Beer Pong. After speaking with
the bar tender, I obtained several mini plastic cups that
must have been the size of 5 oz cups. It would certainly
take an advanced beer pong player to get any sinks on the
small circumference of these micro-cups. In fact, there
was one time in Nantucket that a game with Sarge, Eric
Healy, Sheetz and myself were playing with a pitcher of
some crazy concoction of frozen drink and the only available
cups were dixie cups. Eric Healy was on fire then and enhanced
his status as an elite player by punishing us back in the
late '90's. Anyway, back to the game overall it was Wildman
who seemed to dominate the game by sending perfectly arc-ed
shots seemingly close and dancing around Sheetz's mini
cup. Sheetz was not playing bad by any means, but certainly
was not entirely focused on his game having his date by
his side. Thus Wildman began to chip a way at Sheetz in
a quick 30-minute game of pong. While Sheetz was able to
secure one sink, in the end, it was Wildman who secured
the San Diego Beer Pong victory.
