Beer Pong Hog, Jillian's May 2006

May 12, 2006
(Boston, MA)
In a long awaited battle, the Checkster, Stuart, Boop and Wildman converged on Jillians for a late night battle on the pong table. Unfortunately, there was a stack of pathetic ping pong players in queue (not to be confused the the pool table cues, which we put to use while waiting for the pong tables to open up). The players on the court tried to play ping pong while holding drinks in their hands - - clearly having no historical exposure to the great game of Beer Pong. Anyway, after a few games of doubles Pool, in which Betty "The Pool Shark" and Stuart the Sally schooled the Amish Man and Wildman, the next table was called...Party "Ryan" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "David" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "Piyum" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "Herbie" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "Toby" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "Sally" your Ping Pong Table is free.... Party "Marquadt" your Ping Pong Table is free....Some 2 Hours later...Party "Amish" your Ping Pong Table is free....

In a spirited game of Beer Pong with the Nantucket Rules in effect, it was Amish who came out strong out of the gate. He was a force to be reckoned with initially. Then Wildman stepped in for a few key plays, but his attention was largely focused on testing the hog paddle. Initially, Wildman had some ball control issues, which generally corrected themselves.  Additionally, while the Hog paddle certainly had aesthetic appeal, Wildman assessed the paddle to be slightly heavy and lacking a bit on the bounce factor. "The weight/bounce ratio was a little high", Wildman mentioned. But it was Stuart who had a huge rally and began to focus late in the night. At one point he had three sinks within a span of 2-3 minutes. The man was on fire. Additionally, he was the first in the group to achieve the Pong recognition in the Throwback category - - a part of the game not recognized by the official World Championship rules. Amish man soon rallied to score a throwback as well as Wildman before the closing of the bell. According to the scribble sheets (not to be confused with scribbling on Sheetz), it seems there was a tie in overall Wins, although Amish trumped the competition with his one point sink advantage. Stuart rallied, but it just wasn't enough. Wildman on the other hand, had a mediocre performance and it will take another trial with the Pig Paddle on the court to determine if it is eligible for the high calibre tourney in Vegas.
