The Wave Beer Pong Match-up

February 17, 2005
(Waltham, MA)
In an interesting debacle of Beer Pong, veterans Wildman, Baker, Stuart and Amish took to the Waltham "Wave Sports Pub" to test out the Beer Pong facilities. "Overall, I have to say the venue gets a B+", Wildman commented. "The wave is like a Jillian's bar, but a dive with lots of pool, Karaoke and a hidden room with Beer Pong. Our Blonde waitress hooked us up all night with excellent service and pitchers of beer. The wave also offers an interesting selection of paddles including a few raggedy rubber paddles and a hard plastic Brown Rocket beer pong paddle, which was the weapon of choice. Lastly, the $1 drafts make this an affordable venue for Beer Pong."

As a predicted, "The Mole" Baker was late to the venue, but we were luckily graced with his presence later in the night. Wildman, Stuart and Amish first took to the table with Nantucket "Round Robin" regulation play. To those newbies to this school of play, Nantucket BeerPong rules allow for a quicker and faster game, although the true skill and endurance is not always evident in play. The game is played to 5 points with a hit on the cup (without a save) equaling a point and a sink equaling 5. Win by two of course and hits on the serve offer negative points.

Some comments from the players on the side line:
"Game 2- Amish finishes Wildman off quick. Puts him out of his misery quickly. "
"Stuart is on fire. Can we stop him? Wildman's early efforts are not enough.Amish?"
"Amish's throwbacks are deadly!"

As the night progressed and Bakerman joined us for traditional Beta Beer Pong doubles regulation play.

However, as we appeared to be in an ADD frame of mind, we felt we needed to pick up the pace and practice for a potential 2005 Vegas bid, so we switched over to Mini-Vegas Beer Pong rules. Game to 11. In this style, points count the same if you hit the cup or sink there is no difference. Also there are no saves. The results were quite interesting. Surprisingly, Amish (i.e. Throwback King) lead the stats overall. Then again, it is unclear how many sinks there were achieved in this style of play. While Vegas Beer Pong Rules offer much quicker play, we believe that true beerpong professionals win by sinks, not by "cheapies." The best combo match-up seemed to be Wildman/Stuart vs. Baker/Check challenge and and the even stats seem to support that cause.
